Academy-Award-winning actor Leonardo DiCaprio could easily end up being a climate adviser to the upcoming President.
DiCaprio met with elected President Donald Trump, who is a famous climate change skeptic, on Wednesday to talk about how job positions that are incorporated in environmental protection can have a beneficial influence on the economy.
DiCaprio and the CEO of the DiCaprio Foundation that is engaged in finding answers regarding climate change issues, Terry Taminen, met with Trump and his daughter Ivanka to discuss how a joint focus on renewable and clean energy from Trump’s government can result in the opening of many job positions.
“Our conversation focused on how to create millions of secure, American jobs in the construction and operation of commercial and residential clean, renewable energy generation,” said Tamminen when the meeting ended.
The meeting, held in the Trump Tower in NYC, lasted around 90 minutes, and Leonardo gave Trump a copy of his recent documentary “Before the Flood,” where the actor travels to five continents to make people wary of the impending hazards that climate change could bring.
DiCaprio had met with Ivanka previously as well to talk about the matter, aslo giving her a copy of his documentary.
The president-elect has raised concerns regarding his stance on climate change, claiming that the whole concept was just a hoax.
“I have an open mind to it,” he said for the New York Times. “We’re going to look very carefully. It’s one issue that’s interesting because there are few things where there’s more division than climate change.”
With that out of the way, it is important to mention that Trump appointed Oklahoma Attorney General Scott Pruitt, who is also a major radical skeptic regarding climate change, to be the head of the Environmental Protection Agency, the agency that he has filed a lawsuit against under Obama’s leadership.
The president-elect has talked about this questionable decision.
“For too long, the Environmental Protection Agency has spent taxpayer dollars on an out-of-control anti-energy agenda that has destroyed millions of jobs, while also undermining our incredible farmers and many other businesses and industries at every turn,”added Trump in the release. “(Pruitt) will reverse this trend and restore the EPA’s essential mission of keeping our air and our water clean and safe.”
Trump has promised to reduce Obama’s environmental protection policies when his tenure starts.
More than 800 experts and scientists have issued a letter to Donald Trump imploring him to seriously reconsider his views on climate change and take the required actions to fight against it.
