Ted Cruz introduced a bill this week that is guaranteed to make conservatives happy.
Senator Cruz has sponsored a bill to strip citizenship from Americans who join ISIS or any other terrorist group. Liberal politicians will likely line up against this bill, but they don’t have the votes to stop it! (via The Hill).
“The Expatriate Terrorist Act will ensure that any American who forfeits their country to intentionally join [the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria] will have their citizenship stripped and won’t be able to use a U.S. passport to come back and murder American citizens,” Ted Cruz said.
The Texas senator tried to get a such a bill passed before, but it went nowhere. Now that a bold patriot inhabits the White House and the Republicans have the Senate, the bill stands a very good chance at passing.
The bill states an American could have their United States citizenship stripped if they work for a terrorist organization or serve it in a military capacity. The legislation also mandates the same rights would be revoked if an American pledges allegiance to a terrorist group or otherwise attempts to overthrow our government or provide material support to such groups.
Cruz rightly believes such a law is necessary to better protect America from radical Islamic terrorism. Republican Senators Mike Lee and Chuck Grassley, along with Iowa Representative Steve King, back the Expatriate Terrorist Act.
The secretary of state will also have the authority to deny a passport to anyone who has joined or is attempting to join a terrorist group. Ted Cruz’s legislation deems such organizations a threat to our national security.
“Congress should act to prevent Americans who have traveled abroad for training from returning here, and to stop the flow of refugees from hotbeds of terrorism in the Middle East that President Obama is determined to bring to our country,” Cruz added when promoting the Expatriate Terrorist Act.
Any American charged with the treasonous acts outlined in Ted Cruz’s bill would have 60 days to file an appeal with the State Department. Liberal challenges to the law claiming it is unconstitutional will surely follow once it passes, but it is doubtful their antics will prevail.
The Texas senator’s proposal, combined with the eventual enforcement of President Trump’s temporary travel ban, will make ALL Americans safer.
This is going to drive Bernie Sanders and Elizabeth Warren nuts.
