President Trump told the New York Times Wednesday he believes former national security adviser Susan Rice committed a crime by “unmasking” the identities of Trump associates in U.S. intelligence reports.
“Do I think? Yes, I think,” Trump said when asked during an interview if he thinks a crime was committed by Rice.
Rice is clinging to the hope that she has done nothing wrong but that excuse is getting harder and harder to believe. In fact, it is almost impossible for any credible person to believe Rice.
Rand Paul blasted Rice and went further, he implicated President Obama in the scandal, so suffice it so say this scandal has legs.
“I think it’s going to be the biggest story. It’s such an important story for our country and the world. It is one of the big stories of our time.”
Wow. Rice must be terrified and Obama too. Get lawyers guys because this is not going away. This is just starting.
Rice on Tuesday denied leaking any information about associates of Trump. She said there was no political motivation behind requests to unmask Trump associates identities.
She said she would occasionally receive reports that referred to “U.S. persons” caught up in legal surveillance.
And then she would make requests to the intelligence community for the identities of those people to get more context and information so she could determine if that person was a danger to national security.
But many other NSA chiefs have not really backed up her claims that this was all routine. Rice added, “it was absolutely not for any political purposes, to spy, expose or anything.”
Here is the problem, even if she is telling the truth, and no one believes that she is, then this is an even bigger scandal. Because it shows that our constitutional protections no longer apply.
The constitution is the bedrock on which our democracy rests. While the liberals claim Putin is destroying our democracy or trying to, if this is all true our national security state may have done far more damage than Putin ever could to our democracy.
